What Google Discover is
Discover is a content feed curated by Google based on a user’s interests and behaviour, rather than a search query. It surfaces content people are likely to want before they’ve gone looking for it. Think of it as a cross between Meta advertising and Google Ads.
Discover ads run across the Discover feed itself, as well as the YouTube home feed and the Gmail Promotions and Social tabs. This gives a single campaign substantial reach across high-traffic Google properties.

Why it works
Similar to Meta advertising, the strength of Discover lies in its signals.
Google draws on a user’s search history, browsing patterns and app activity to predict intent. Ads appear natively within content people already trust, which means they feel less intrusive and more relevant — capturing attention at the moment curiosity is highest. Often, Discover placements are considerably more cost effective regularly achieving conversion costs around 8% lower on average than other Google placements.

Who it suits
Discover ads excel for businesses with longer sales funnels and considered purchases. For example, high-ticket home improvements — kitchen refits, garden rooms, outdoor kitchens, and windows and doors — as well as aesthetic and dental treatments, or any other luxury higher-value purchases. It’s ideal for building demand and nurturing interest rather than chasing immediate clicks and sales.
How it’s accessed
Discover ads are set up directly within Google Ads and form part of Performance Max (PMax) campaigns. Their success leans heavily on using high-production imagery, video and compelling copy to stand out in the feed. They run alongside conventional search campaigns.
Google Discover offers a quieter, more visual way to reach potential customers, meeting them where their attention already is, rather than waiting for them to search. For businesses selling considered purchases, it’s a valuable means of building awareness and demand at a stage when most competitors aren’t yet in the picture.
